Barbie Is Going Where No Woman's Gone Before
By Tess Koman
A Mattel press release introduced president and vice president Barbies, the result of a partnership with She Should Run, an organization dedicated to increasing the amount of women in elected offices. PBOTUS and VPBOTUS are available immediately on Mattel's site and will soon be in toy stores nationwide.
"The President and Vice President dolls continue our efforts to expose girls to inspiring careers that are underrepresented by women," General Manager and Senior Vice President, Barbie, Lisa McKnight said in the press release. "We see this doll set as a timely and topical platform to further the conversation around female leadership. We are proud to partner with She Should Run to help elevate its message and show girls that they can be and do anything."
The dolls are available in "a variety" of hair colors, skin tones, and face shapes, though there is no variation of body type for these particular dolls yet. They come in a two-pack — ensuring an all-female ticket! — and cost $24.99 total.
The introduction of president and vice president Barbies comes six months after Mattel historically made the doll available in three different body types: tall, curvy, and petite. It also comes just more than a month after Hillary Clinton's historic clinching of the Democratic Party nomination.
Each set of presidential Barbies bought also counts as a double vote for HRC and her TBD running mate — kidding, but @Mattel, think about it.
